The Connected Waters Initiative is a joint initiative between UNSW Faculties of Science and Engineering, supporting staff from the Schools of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering (MINE), School of Biological Earth & Environmental Sciences (BEES) and the School of Law (LAW).

The CWI is significant member of the Australian Research Council and National Water Commission co-funded Centre for Excellence for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT). As part of the national centre, we receive approximately $6.9M funding for the training of Honours, PhD and post-doctoral researchers from 2009 to 2014.

The CWI manages the DIISRTE Groundwater Education Investment Fund (GEIF), supporting $15M of groundwater infrastructure over the period 2010 to 2013 for the establishment of long term monitoring sites for groundwater research. Infrastructure support includes CRIS funding to maintain this infrastructure beyond 2013.

The CWI further supports a range of groundwater research projects funded by the Australian Research Council, NSW State Government and the Cotton RDC. For further details about our research projects, please follow the links.
